Doctrine of God Reading List
On Sunday evenings at Banstead Community Church, we’ve just finished the first part of teaching series I’ve been doing on the Doctrine of God (Theology Proper) called ‘The God who is…’
So far we have covered the existence and knowledge of God, the attributes of God, and the names of God. [The second part will be on the Trinity].
Below is a list of resources I’ve used (with a couple of recommendations) and a link to all the teaching handouts in the series.
My Reading List
The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith
Reformed Systematic Theology, Volume 1: Revelation and God by Joel Beeke & Paul Smalley
Lectures in Systematic Theology: Doctrine of God by Greg Nichols
Theoretical-Practical Theology, Volume 2: Faith in the Triune God by Petrus Van Mastricht
None Greater by Matthew Barrett
The Attributes of God: An Introduction by Graham Cole
The Identity and Attributes of God by Terry Johnson
Show Me Your Glory: Understanding the Majestic Splendor of God by Steve Lawson
The Existence and Attributes of God by Stephen Charnock
12 Things God Can’t Do by Nick Tucker
My Two Picks
If I was going to choose two I would probably go for:
Technical: Reformed Systematic Theology, Volume 1: Revelation and God by Joel Beeke & Paul Smalley
Accessible: God Is by Mark Jones (closely followed by the two Jen Wilkins books).
My Teaching Handouts
You can find all 25 handouts from the series so far HERE.
Field Notes
A reminder that every Saturday I send out a Substack with 10 links from around the web worth checking out and the latest resources I’ve produced at Blog of Dan (my online Notion page).
